Malnourished 10-Year-Old Boy Found Locked In Squalid Ontario Bedroom For 2 Years!

Investigators said they found him in urine-soaked pyjamas, pale and malnourished, and desperate to go to school.
A 10-year-old boy in London, Ont., was freed Thursday from the filthy bedroom he was forced to live in for up to two years, London Police Insp. Kevin Heslop told reporters Friday.
The child’s guardians, his aunt and uncle, have been arrested and charged with failing to provide the necessaries of life and forcible confinement. His nine-year-old female cousin was also removed from the home, and both are now in foster care.
The boy, who has not been identified by police, was “living in filthy conditions,” Heslop said, for an estimated 18 to 24 months.
He survived on a diet of fast food, delivered once in the morning and once at night. Although the bedroom had an ensuite bathroom, Heslop said the boy slept on a urine-soaked mattress, surrounded by feces and fast-food containers, and may have only left the room once, for a brief period, in 2013.
“It’s a horrific case and everyone sees it as that,” Heslop said. “Of course this is upsetting to (investigators); it would be upsetting to anyone.”
Jane Fitzgerald, executive director of the Children’s Aid Society for London and Middlesex, said it is thanks to an anonymous tip that they were able to save the boy.

The Frustrating Rise of Iggy Azalea

Azalea just became the first artist since the Fab Four to have their first two singles finish at number one and number two on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in the same week. The Beatles did in 1964 with “I Want to Hold Your Hand” in the top spot, followed by “She Loves You.” On this week’s chart, Azalea’s sassed-out humblebrag “Fancy” surged to number one, while her collaboration with Ariana Grande, “Problem,” sits pretty at number two.
Azalea’s seemingly meteoric rise is all the more fascinating, however, when you consider that it wasn’t meteoric at all. Her chart takeover has been staged for more than three years now, when whispers that Azalea could be music’s next big thing first began.

Whoa! Take A Look At The Earliest Born Person Ever Photographed

The lovely portrait above, courtesy of the Maine Historical Society, is a daguerreotype made in the year 1852. As such, it clocks in a bit after the contenders for the first photographs ever taken. Yet Hayer himself, born in 1749, was older than his contemporary photographic subjects, and is considered to be the first photo model ever born, making him... the earliest born person ever photographed.
Plus, according to Imaging Resource, he is also the only photographed Revolutionary War veteran who served under George Washington and crossed the Delaware River to Valley Forge.
In terms of his personal history, Hayer moved to a farm in Waldoboro, Maine after the war, where he spent the remainder of his days. He passed away four years after the photo was taken, at 107 years old. The gripping photograph, aside from its American historical significance, captures the intensity of an individual who, even at 103, maintains an intimidating dignity and presence. We can feel the unflinching power of his piercing gaze from the comfort of our desks, all these years later.

After 57 years, the world's oldest "new" car finally ends production

In 1957, the Hindustan Ambassador brought the gift of four wheels to India, based on Britain's then-old Morris Oxford. During the next 57 years, the car has changed little, making it the oldest "new" mass-produced vehicle still being built. But in a world where evolution matters, it's that staleness that has led sales to plummet, causing production of India's most iconic car to come to a halt.
In recent years, most Ambassador sales in India have been for taxi fleets or government use, with its archaic design, inherent size and poor fuel economy becoming unsuitable for India's middle class. Buyers have been also finally been lured away by even cheaper alternatives from abroad.
The Ambassador has long been a symbol of power in India. Its lack of evolution, though, has left it as nothing more than a bit of motoring nostalgia. Hindustan ceased production to cut its losses, and has said it will begin drawing plans for its "revival."
As for that oldest-new car title: The Ambassador's only competition for oldest new car is the Morgan 4/4, a hand-built sports car that has some ancestry with the model that debuted in 1955, although it's been tinkered with several times over the preceeding years. Had the Ambassador at least stayed current, while maintaining its historic roots, it could have been the country's version of Rolls-Royce. With funding, it possibly still could be, but it will take an investor with a big heart and even bigger wallet to take such a leap of faith.

Robert De Niro Opens Up About His Gay Father

From Taxi Driver and The Godfather, to Silver Linings Playbook and American Hustle, Robert De Niro is one of the most accomplished working actors alive today.
Never short on extracurricular activities (he and producing partner Jane Rosenthal just wrapped their 13th Tribeca Film Festival last month), De Niro's latest project is a touching documentary about his father, Robert De Niro Sr. — a New York artist who was revered by his son, but struggled his whole life with being gay.
The 70-year-old actor recently opened up to Out about the relationship he had with his dad while giving the magazine a personalized tour of his father's final home and art studio in Soho, which he maintains as if a working artist still lives there. "It was the only way to keep his being, his existence alive here," he explained.
When it comes to his father's sexuality, De Niro said it was something that his father was very conflicted about his whole life. "Yeah, he probably was [conflicted]," he told Out. "Being from that generation, especially from a small town upstate. I was not aware, much, of it," adding that his family's bottled up emotions were a product of the times. "I wish we had spoken about it much more. My mother didn’t want to talk about things in general, and you’re not interested when you’re a certain age."
When asked whether or not his dad's sexuality influenced the roles he had played over the years, De Niro said, "No, [because] they weren’t offered to me. If they had been offered to me by a good director, that’s something I would have considered."

Ashton Kutcher repaired a fan's car on Saturday night (05.24.14).
The 'Two and a Half Men' star, whose fiancée Mila Kunis is pregnant with their first child, came to the aid of a group of hikers after their car broke down in the Hollywood Hills in Los Angeles.
The driver told gossip website TMZ.com that his battery died while they were hiking, so they pushed it to a nearby street and began flagging down other cars in a bid to get someone to help them jump-start their vehicle.
The group were stunned when the 36-year-old actor spotted them and pulled over, offering to help.
Ashton told them that he had to drop his passenger, believed to have been 'Black Swan' star Mila, at home first, but quickly returned to the scene to assist them.
The source said that the heartthrob initially struggled to find his own battery, because it was located in the back of his Lexus, but eventually helped them get back on the road.
A member of the group captured a video of the road-side rescue, during which Ashton can be heard laughing and says: "I've never f****ing not been able to find a battery in a car."

The 23-year-old singer has been dating DJ Calvin Harris - who has a residency in Las Vegas - for the past year and admits that it can be challenging being away from each another for long periods of time, but insists it can still work if you're both determined to keep it going.
She said: "Long-distance relationships aren't ideal. They're really hard and there are times when you feel as if you're on your own. I think if you really want to make it work, you will. Has Dr. Dre’s drunken boast cost his company $3.2 billion?

We haven’t heard anything official about its supposed $3.2 billion purchase of Beats from Apple yet and now Billboard reports there’s a good reason for that. According to Billboard’s sources, Apple was not at all happy about a video posted by actor Tyrese Gibson where a couple of weeks ago in which Beats founder and hip-hop legend Dr. Dre boasts about becoming “the first billionaire in hip-hop.” Apple was also probably not happy to hear that Gibson said that Dre was “drunk off of Heinekens” in the video, which was posted on Gibson’s Facebook page right after news broke that Apple would be buying Beats for $3.2 billion.
While most of us found the Dre video funny, it’s pretty obvious why Apple did not — the company has long thrived with a culture of extreme secrecy and it probably took the video as a sign that the team at Beats might not be a good fit. In addition to this, Billboard says that Apple was not happy that Beats apparently leaked news about the deal well before the company was ready to make it formal.
This doesn’t mean the deal to acquire Beats is dead, of course, but it seems that Apple is rethinking the terms of an acceptable deal and doing its due diligence to make sure it’s not making a huge mistake.

5 Signs You Should Be Eating More Carbs

It's unfortunate how we treat the poor carbohydrate. Mistakenly associated with weight gain and empty calories, carbs are actually an essential part of a balanced diet -- especially if you want to do any sort of physical activity -- and often a tasty one, at that.
The Dietary Guidelines for Americans recommend that children and adults get about 45 to 65 percent of their daily calories from carbs. Of course, not all carbs are created equal. Those that come from refined sugars and flours may only cause more troublesome cravings. But carbs from whole grains or veggies don't result in the same dramatic blood sugar spike, LiveScience reported.
So skip the sugary cereals and the second spaghetti helping, but get your fill of squash, beans, fruit, quinoa, oatmeal and so much more. Don't believe us? Here are a few good reasons you'll want to do just that.

F***ck You! The Last Words of Tupac Shakur.

One late-summer night in 1996, a rap superstar was gunned down just off the Strip. Since then, his story has become legend. But for the Metro cop who was first on the scene, that night remains unforgettably real.
The call came in on the radio just after 11:15 p.m.: Shots had been fired near the intersection of Flamingo and Koval, with possible victims. Several vehicles had made a U-turn on Flamingo and headed west. The bicycle officer who made the call from the Maxim hotel began trailing the cars, but was too far behind to catch them. He could, however, see them turn left onto Las Vegas Boulevard.

Chinese state media says five suicide bombers carried out Xinjiang attack

URUMQI, China (Reuters) - Five suicide bombers carried out the attack which killed 31 people in the capital of China's troubled Xinjiang region, state media reported a day after the deadliest terrorist attack to date in the region.
The incident, which occurred in Urumqi on Thursday morning, was the second suicide attack in the capital in just over three weeks. A bomb and knife attack at an Urumqi train station in late April killed one bystander and wounded 79.
The government recently launched a campaign to strike hard against terrorism in Xinjiang, blaming Islamists and separatists for the worsening violence in the resource-rich western region bordering central Asia. At least 180 people have been killed in attacks across China over the past year.

Donald Sterling agrees to allow wife Shelly Sterling to sell the Los Angeles Clippers

Banned-for-life Los Angeles Clippers owner Donald Sterling has reportedly agreed to cede control of the organization to his wife, Rochelle "Shelly" Sterling, to negotiate with the NBA on a sale of the franchise that could be worth billions, and that would bring the disgraced Sterling's time as the NBA's longest-tenured owner to a long-awaited end.
TMZ first reported Friday morning that Sterling had "just surrendered control" to Shelly, his wife of 58 years, and that she "is now secretly negotiating with the NBA to sell the team:
Our sources say Shelly and her lawyer, Pierce O'Donnell, have been secretly meeting with NBA Commissioner Adam Silver and NBA lawyers to "resolve the dispute amicably." We're told Shelly realizes the NBA wants the team sold, but she has significantly more leverage and credibility with the league than Donald. Her end game is simple -- she won't object to the sale, but SHE wants to call the shots.
ESPN’s Ramona Shelburne followed up with a report that confirms the main point — Donald's allowing Shelly to take the reins in working out a deal — but still refers to any prospective agreement as a “forced sale” and notes that, since the NBA would have to sign off on Shelly acting as the focal point for decision-making and negotiations, this development likely wouldn't result in Shelly "calling the shots," per se:
Shelly Sterling and her lawyers have been negotiating with the NBA since her husband was banned for life by Commissioner Adam Silver on April 29. While the league has yet to formally accept this arrangement, sources said, if she is willing to sell the team in its entirety, this could bring a startlingly quick end to what appeared to be a protracted legal battle.

Humblebrag or Love Note? Internet Weighs In On Law Student's Viral Post

Which is a more important life achievement: graduating from an Ivy League law school or meeting the person you want to spend the rest of your life with? For one University of Pennsylvania law student, it's definitely the latter. The legal-world blog Above the law recently published a mushy Facebook post from a Penn law student to her boyfriend, in which she says that finding him was more important than being the first person in the family to go to college or landing her dream job.
The post, titled "YOU ARE THE BEST THING EVER HAPPENED TO ME" (yes, there seems to be a missing word there) continues with a list of the love-struck lawyer's life accomplishments, including getting a college scholarship and "winning 2nd place at national moot court competition," and then her insistence that her man trumps all of them.

Above the Law editor Elie Mystal called the note "a humble brag’ a term popularized by "Parks and Recreation" writer and producer Harris Wittels  that refers to a boast or self-adulation disguised as a humble comment, usually in social media. The humblebrag has become such a widespread phenomenon that Wittels's Twitter account  dedicated solely to retweeting humblebrags, including those by celebrities like "Entourage" star Jerry Ferraraand radio host Cody Alan, eventually reached 258,000 followers. (Though the Twitter feed is no longer active, the hashtag remains popular.) He even published a satirical book on the topic, "Humblebrag: The Art of False Modesty," in 2012.
