Just after dropping his first single since the Good Kid, Maad City album, “i” is at once classic Kendrick and at the same time not exactly him. Listen to here and imagine it playing over a TV Commercial, Say Pepsi or Coca Cola, that is to say, its a ‘marketable tune’, maybe not directly to mainstream fans but through the prism of advertsing, I begin to see the value. Or maybe its the Ad Exec in me speaking. Or even the Kendrick fan even. Anyhoos, it don’t matter. I like the track.
Kendrick Lamar stopped by Big Boy’s neighborhood on Power 106 L.A. this week and he reflected on the impact of his “Control” verse one year later, and how it did (or didn’t) affect his relationship with J. Cole and Drake.
